Autumn Term Wrap-up

Autumn Term Wrap-up

We’ve had a busy term with lots of exciting creative work happening.

On Monday and Tuesday afternoons we’ve been working with FabLab on Costume and Woodwork workshops for members so they can create items for the Lights Up! performance next year.

Meanwhile on Wednesdays our Creative Café group has been created songs for the production, as well as creating and rehearsing performance pieces for their two Open Mics this term.

Our two drama groups have made great progress on Lights Up! and we held a work-in-progress sharing in B2 at the end of the term. This was a rare opportunity for the two groups to come together, something we are looking forward to doing more of next term in advance of the production. The characters, storyline and messages in the play are wonderful but we still have lots to work on in advance of February, namely line-learning, transition tidying etc.!

3 members shadowed behind the scenes for tech, all found it interesting and enjoyed the opportunity. One of our members has written a blog post about the experience.

In November I hosted the Post-Show Discussion for ‘I, Daniel Blake‘ at the Belgrade Theatre, with cast members, Bryony Corrigan, David Nellist, and Micky Cochrane, Coventry Foodbank and Central England Law Centre The discussion was thoughtful, with great questions from the audience, and the panel shared the incredible work they do in supporting people and bringing about change, and they ended by asking people to be allies.

Our members had a wonderful time painting with Paul Lemmon as part of Coventry Biennial of Contemporary Art 🎨 Thanks to Warwick Institute of Engagement
Check out this Podcast Series  by Dash Arts, and hear UL members speak up about what they want to see change in the world. We were proud to have three people from UL involved in Dash Arts event in Manchester this term.
At the end of this term we said goodbye to Tom who had joined us on placements from the Royal Central School of Speech Drama where he is studying BA Drama, Applied Theatre and Education. Tom has also written an Autumn Term Reflection blog post about his time with us. He’s been a great addition to the team and staff and members alike will miss his positivity, energy and support.
