The play explored the enchanting magic of theatre—its power to inspire, connect, and transform—while also highlighting the barriers that can prevent access to its wonders. Through personal narratives, Who is Theatre for? sparked meaningful conversations about inclusivity and the role theatre plays in our lives.
Who is Theatre for? was a bold and ambitious performance created over 12 weeks by the talented members of Underground Lights. The play was performed at three venues across Coventry, including a homeless hostel, to prioritize reach and inclusivity. As part of its development, the production involved community interviews and a workshop at Harnall Lifehouse Hostel, ensuring local voices were at the heart of the project.
The play tackled the magic of theatre and the barriers to accessing it, offering members the chance to explore a challenging new theatrical style while addressing an important topic. The effort and creativity poured into the production paid off, delivering a enjoyable experience for both performers and audiences.
Following the performance, a Q&A session with the cast provided deeper insights into the creative process and the impact of being part of Underground Lights. One cast member expressed the sentiment shared by many, describing the group as “one big family.” This production not only brought people together but also demonstrated the transformative power of inclusive, community-driven theatre.
