In a world that often seems divided by distance and isolation, a simple postcard can bridge the gap, spreading joy and connection. Send a Smile postcard exhibition is a heartwarming and poignant exhibition created by 250 homeless artists from around the world. Originating in Coventry during lockdown, the project was thought up by Hayley and Beth from Underground Lights and went global thanks to Arts and Homelessness International.

Send a Smile Postcard Exhibition Tour

Most recently A&HI toured the Send a Smile exhibition across England, visiting cities including Plymouth, Manchester, London, and Maidenhead.  Community workshops at schools and homeless centres amplifying its reach and impact on an international scale.

The genesis of Send a Smile was rooted in the desire to connect isolated individuals and bring a glimmer of joy to their lives as the world grappled with the challenges of lockdown. Beth and Hayley invited homeless individuals to participate by drawing what makes them smile on postcards. The postcards, each a small canvas of hope and resilience, served as a testament to the human spirit’s capacity for resilience and creativity.

The exhibition tour, spanning several cities across England, served as a celebration of these voices and stories. The tour showcased the power of art to transcend boundaries and unite communities.

As the Send a Smile postcard exhibition tour recently ended it’s important to remember that its impact continues to resonate; we all possess the ability to spread joy and kindness. Let us carry forward the message of hope and unity, continuing to send smiles to those who need them most.
