Medieval Coventry Captivates our Imagination

New Underground Lights member, Marie, shares her thoughts about the summer term…

I like to come to Underground Lights because you get to act with different people, it’s comradeship, you work together to produce something and we put on a show.

I was a knight in shining armour jousting with a lance. I was a pauper at a medieval festival with a comrade on horseback with an official invitation from the Queen. I was one of the King’s men held up in Sherwood Forest by Robin Hood’s Merry Men. I will get to perform at St. Marys Guildhall, one of the most influential places of Coventry during Medieval times! That’s why it’s interesting. You get a release from ordinary life and become someone different and do something amazing: produce a show.

The good thing is you can be anyone in history or anyone in the future, you decide. We’re given themes, invent new characters and make new scenes.
