LOST AND FOUND; Adventures in musicality with Underground Lights

This term we have been working on the theme of lost and found and have ended up devising a play about pirates. Beginning with a blank canvas it was difficult at first to narrow down what music would be suitable to evoke a life spent at sea. I decided to call on the example of other theatre companies who use folk music as part of their performances, theatre companies such as Footsbarn, Gardzienice or Cirque Du Soliel.

It’s strange that as we have been working on the theme of lost and found I have remembered music from years ago, music that I haven’t played for years. Playing the fiddle for the performance, I have played songs such as a horn pipe, reel or a jig or air.

Finding music in my memory for the performance has been a creative experience as well as uniting our group. The main influence on the music was Irish and English folk music and we used it to dance as well. The main style influencing me was Tommy Peoples (Irish fiddle player) I look forward to next tern for more musical adventures.
