A 100 Word Poem for the Captain Tom 100 fundraiser

The Forgotten People

With dignity and grace. I try to embrace each day as it comes.
When I get shunned, it leaves me stunned.
Laying on door steps. It wasn’t always this way.
I had a life, a family, a job with good pay.
It slipped away, day by day.
And here I stay, just for today.
People walking past. Going so fast.
Put my hat on the ground. Hoping it will be found.
A hot coffee would be great.
Hope it’s not too late.
Darkness falling, feeling tense.
Feeling like I’m on the defence.
This is just so immense.

Join Underground Lights members and take part in the Captain Tom 100 challenge this weekend

Underground Lights like many other charities, has been hugely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Captain Tom 100 offers Underground Lights supporters, of all ages and abilities, the opportunity to raise crucial funds for our charity.

How it works

All you need to do is dream up a Captain Tom 100 challenge based around the number 100 and do it at any time and anywhere over Captain Tom’s birthday weekend – starting on Friday 30 April through to Bank Holiday Monday 3 May.

The challenge could be walking 100 steps or running 100 metres, scoring 100 goals, baking 100 cakes, climbing 100 stairs, hopping 100 laps of the garden, building 100 sandcastles, writing a 100-word poem, flipping 100 pancakes – anything at all, inside or out. (Please remember to follow the Government’s current Covid restrictions.)

Once you have chosen your challenge, you can fundraise or donate to Underground Lights and share your 100 on social media, using #CaptainTom100.
